In today’s globalized world, characterized by the ever-increasing trans-boundary flow of people and goods, the further spread of epidemics and pandemics is even greater. Infectious diseases spread more quickly than they ever have before, as evidenced by SARS, Ebola, Zika and bird flu outbreaks with the largest in the 21st century being COVID-19 which has become a global matter.
It is, therefore, beyond the ability of any single country or organization to address health threats themselves as diseases do not respect country borders. This reality has generated demand for more concerted policy responses and diplomatic coordination globally. Against this background, the Committee on Fiscal Studies Africa organized a 2-hour webinar to discuss Health Diplomacy and the Fight Against COVID-19 with special focus on African countries, especially Kenya. The webinar brought together a multidisciplinary panel consisting of experts from different fields.
