Ghana and Morocco have reached a landmark agreement to waive visa requirements for travellers from both countries, a move expected to enhance diplomatic relations and foster economic cooperation.

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, announced that the agreement would be presented to both nations’ parliaments for approval in the coming weeks.
This marks a significant milestone in promoting seamless travel and reinforcing bilateral partnerships.
Expanding cooperation in key sectors
Following discussions with the Moroccan Ambassador to Ghana, Her Excellency Imane Ouaadil, Ablakwa disclosed that the two nations had also committed to deepening cooperation in agribusiness, tourism, and security.
“We have both additionally pledged to deepen collaboration in agribusiness, tourism, and security,” he stated.
Ablakwa also used the platform to address concerns arising from social media reports about alleged violence against Africans in Morocco. He reassured the public that the Moroccan Ambassador had firmly denied allegations that 700 Africans had been killed in the country.
“Apparently, the footage in issue is an old 24th June 2022 border incident which led to the tragic, unfortunate, and condemnable loss of 23 lives. That deplorable incident has since been investigated by Moroccan and Spanish authorities,” he clarified.
He further assured that no Ghanaian was affected in the reported incident, urging the public to verify information before spreading misinformation.
Morocco increases scholarships for Ghanaian students
Shifting the focus to education, Ablakwa announced that Morocco had doubled its annual scholarships for Ghanaian students. The scholarship slots will increase from 90 to 180, beginning this year, providing more opportunities for Ghanaian students to pursue higher education in Morocco.

Prior to his meeting with the Moroccan Ambassador, Ablakwa also held discussions with the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Sergei Berdnikov. Their talks focused on strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between Ghana and Russia.
“Ghana will continue to pursue our longstanding foreign policy of positive neutrality and serve as a credible voice for global peace,” he affirmed in a Facebook post.
